Black and White

For a complete change to colour just playing around with black and white.
I have tried engraving but found the process rather tedious

Samuel Palmer 1805-1881

Samuel Palmer is one of those artists that I keep meaning to have a look at, I do have a book that is mainly concerned with his drawings and sketches from 1824 and published by Thames Hudson.
What I learnt from Wikipeadia was that he seems to have become dissolusioned with rural scenes because of the discontent that was around in the 1830's .

Wandering Wednesday
Langstone Foreshore, the first port of call. tide was in so had to scrap the idea of walking to Emsworth along the foreshore. Even though a dull day threaatning to rain ( which it did in the end) the reflections were interesting.
After a walk back home took the back route to emsworth and spotted the pheasant. it was so still and the female was lurking in the background but quickly scuddled off...
The final stage of the walk was the slipper millpond,
not to be confussed with the Mill pond which is the more cenral walk you can go right round
Though I do think in the case of the Slipper Mill pond they could tidy a bit more round the edges!
The photos have come out so you are looking at them reading up the page, the last photo on top, which shows the ducks amid some rubbish!!

Robert Gallon 1845-1925 (artist)
The image shown is of a old greetings card, i may be braking copyright but I have shown the context ie the name of the greeting card publisher.
A pleasant enough scene showing a barge on what looks like a river. . there are cows on the river bank and cottages in the distance. the use of the barge with steam showes the progress of industry in a otherwisee idlyic countryl scene.
the artist usally painted on the spot this accounts for the sense of place.
The original card did not have any details about the artist,
Looking at the painting ,a romantic would note the lack of a horse towing the barge.
